Jimmy
Kaler Event at
the Bayport Aerodrome,
Sunday, June 12, 2005
Local
dignitaries presented Jimmy Kaler with a citation in
recognition of his accomplishments in establishing a
flight training school for those who are physically
disabled. Jimmy, a corporate pilot, sustained a
spinal cord injury which paralyzed his legs and made
him need a wheelchair to move about. His personal
courage to overcome his handicap moved him to start
a flying school for disabled people like himself. He
acquired an airplane, had it equipped with handicap
controls and now maintains it at the Bayport
Aerodrome. Jimmy trains others to fly the specially
outfitted small plane. Pictured from left to right
to congratulate Jimmy were Councilpersons Chris
Bodkin and Pam Greene, Legislator Ginny Fields and
Congressman Steve Israel. They and many others were
instrumental in helping Jimmy to achieve his worthy
goals. Family, friends and a hundred or so other
well wishers, were on hand for the ribbon cutting to
inaugurate Jimmy’s “Able To Aviation” school.
