The 6th Annual
Girl Scouts Holiday Light Show is shining
bright every night from 5pm-9pm at Camp Edey
in Bayport until December 30th. They will be
closed on December 24th and 25th. Cost is $12
per car.
This event is rated as one of the top light
shows in the area. Listen to their own
commercial free radio station 87.9 FM, as you
drive through the woods shining with the
thousands of lights that the staff and
volunteers of Suffolk County Girl Scouts
assembled. And it is not the same old show,
because every year new displays are built.
This year there is about five miles of rope
lights used on the trail.
One of the new spectacular displays is a 23
foot tall Empire State Building. Every display
has a theme and all the light scenes are
easily viewed out of both sides of your car.
So everyone has a great seat. At the gate,
when you pay, make sure to get the free 3-D
firework glasses for the kids. It makes
viewing the lights extra sparkly for them.
After driving pass all the lights, stop into
the Holiday Village for more festive fun.
Santa is available to hear Christmas wishes
on these dates. On December 10th Hauppauge
High School Chamber Choir is performing at 7pm
and December 18th Girl Scouts of Nassau
Country Chorus will be singing holiday songs
at 7:30pm. Also visit the Hall of Trees to see
Christmas trees decorated by different troops.
Here is a
coupon for a free photo CD at the Holiday
Village.
The Girl Scouts start construction on new
displays in January, finishing in the summer.
Then in October, the set up of all the
displays starts. After the last car drives
through in the end December, it takes them
about a week to break all the displays down
and start all over again.
Last year The Holiday Light Show raised close
to $100,000. All these proceeds go to help
Girl Scout program and outreach services. It
also allows them to give to children in need
the funds to attend their summer camp program.
Follow the signs to Camp Edey, 600 Lakeview
Avenue, Bayport to see the Girl Scout's
Holiday Light Show.
